 One of the hottest items at CES 2000, was all the newest innovations in DTV and HDTV.  After reading over the Media Kit from CEMA entitled "On the Road to DTV" we realized how much information there was, and how little most people (including us) know about this new Digital standard.

Industry DTV Definitions *

The Language of Digital TV

Confused by the terminology? Here's how the industry defines these digital systems and products.

Digital TV (DTV): 

This is the umbrella term used to describe the new digital television system adopted by the FCC in December 1996.

High-Definition TV (HDTV):

This term refers to a complete product/system with the following minimum performance attributes:

  • Resolution: vertical display resolution of 720P, 1080I or higher.

  • Aspect Ratio: capable of displaying a 16:9 image at the minimum resolution level.

  • Audio: receives, reproduces, and/or outputs Dolby digital audio

  • Receiver: receives, all ATSC Table III formats
