" When you're up it's never as good as it seems and when your down you never think you are going to up again. But life goes on. Remember that." Based on a true story, Blow is the saga of George Jung (played here by Johnny Depp) a drug dealer in the 70's and 80's. Jung is credited with establishing the first Colombian cocaine connection between Pablo Escobar and the United States. If you lived through the 70/80, are a history buff, liked the movie Traffic, or just like drug dramas, then you're bound to get a kick out Blow. In 1968 George Jung made the movie of his life, he packed it all in and moved from Massachusetts to the land of plenty, California. He had no plans or desire to get a job; all he wanted to do was party on the beach and meet women. Lucky for him the drug trade was untapped in his area. Also lucky for him he met Derek Foreal (Paul Rubens) the main drug trafficker for the region. First marijuana then, after a stint in prison, becoming the largest importer of cocaine to the US. The question is not whether or not he gets caught, but how many times. Is it possible for you too feel sorry for a drug dealer? Just you wait and see… Presented in a letterboxed anamorphic widescreen at 2.35:1, the video quality here is well above average, with no noticeable artifacting or dirt. The 5.1 Dolby Digital Soundtrack is adequate, but nothing spectacular, weighing in at average on our star scale. This is the third New Line infinifilm series DVD (the others, 15 Minuets and Thirteen Days) that we have reviewed here. For those that don't know infinifilm is a new level of DVD, offering a selectable pop-up band at the bottom of the screen that allows you to view the extras, in-line where they make the most sense. In the case of the movie Blow these extras include interviews with the real George Jung, a documentary on cocaine's impact on Colombia, a documentary on addiction, director's commentary, deleted scenes, and more. All the best extras, with a cooler way to access them now that's five stars all the way! Blow is more then just the story of a drug dealer from two decades ago; this is the story of a man, his life, his trials and tribulations, his ups and downs, and even true love. The story of this man's one real love, his daughter, is truly touching. It was his love of Cocaine that got him touched however. Some people just never learn. But it is still snowing down in Miami…
