Nice Guys Sleep Alone

DVD Review by Joe

"We can never be Just Friends"

You may have never heard the five worst words a man can hear on a date (You're such a nice guy) but if you have this movie is a must. If you are the type of woman who constantly looks for the bad boy, and have said those five words to someone get this movie now. As romantic comedies go this one has something for everyone.

The first scene starts off on a date with leading man Carter (Sean O'Bryan) and sets up the (He is such a nice guy) persona for the following scenes. Carter's best friend Pat (Blake Steury) is at the horse track with him the next day, and while losing on the horses they share stories of failed dates. Just when you think Carter is doomed to loneliness for the rest of the movie in walks Erin (Vanessa Marcil) his beautiful flirtatious step-sister and she lets everyone know just how hot she is. If Carter ever had a little devil on his shoulder you just know it was whenever Erin was around.

But Carter's love life is only part of the dating nightmares in this film. The new girl to town Maggie (Sybil Temchen) gets to experience possibly the worst of all dating rituals the blind date. While at first it seems she may actually like Robert (Christopher Murry) the pampas self absorbed millionaire, you soon learn she just has a really nice way of saying don't call me ever again.

The rest of the story entails Carter and Maggie trying to get together, and the good and bad advice we all seem to get when we try to find the right person. While it seems some of the choices these two make are just too bad to be true you can be sure reality is much stranger than fiction when it comes to dating.
With other stars such as Morgan Fairchild and William Sanderson this is a well written, well directed movie, and for an independent film this award winning feature is a must see.

The video quality is average and presented in a non Anamorphic wide screen, but had very little grain and is pretty clean. The audio is fair and presented in Dolby SR. There are a good amount of extras on this disc, but we would have liked to have seen a cast and crew biography in the bonus section.

This film hits home with many people especially the dating public, and plays to one major problem with dating, The Games We Play. Unfortunately games have winners and losers and sometime when you start playing a game you don't know the person your playing against is better at it then you!

While at the 2001 VSDA show in Las Vegas we had the pleasure of meeting the director of this film Stu Pollard and we are sorry to say he seems to be a Nice Guy.
So remember You're cute. You're sweet. You're kind. You're history. And Nice Guys Sleep Alone.
