“You’re Human.” – “Barely. I'm a lawyer.”

As is the case with most movie sequels, no one would be reading this or any other review of this film if they hated the first of the series. So the question then becomes, is this one as good as the first? Does it stand on its own, yet continue the strong story and great character development from the original? Blade II does all this and more, offering itself up as one of a handful of rare film sequels that equal or possible exceed their predecessor. Just remember that with films like Blade II that more of the same does mean more blood, more gore, and much more carnage then ever before.

What is worse then a vampire? How about a new, even more deadly super-strain of bloodsuckers, called reapers? Reapers are meaner and hungrier then their vampire counterparts, and are lacking in most of the weaknesses that you have come to know and love about these sole-less creatures. Silver? Steak through the heart? Not going to get the job done here. What’s worse, these mutations not only feed on humans but on their half-brothers the vampires as well. So Blade and the Bloodpack, an elite team of vampire warriors trained and sworn to kill him, are forced to team up and face a lethal common enemy.

New Line’s Platinum Series DVDs have been setting the bar for the highest quality discs since the very beginning of the format, and they continue to raise that standard. Blade II showcases the very best in high quality video and sound, with an anamorphic widescreen picture at 1.85:1 (Incorrectly listed on the box as 2.35:1), that is as close to flawless as you can get in a live action film. There are only two words for the sound offering on this disc “Reference Quality”, with both a Dolby Digital 5.1 EX soundtrack and a DTS ES 6.1 soundtrack that will challenge the best sound-systems to keep up.

Are you always looking for the most extras achievable to be squeezed on a disc? This two-disc Platinum Series DVD contains more extras then you could possibly watch in one sitting. Like commentaries? How about two? One from the Director Guillermo Del Toro and Producer Peter Frankfurt, and another full length one from the Writer David Goyer and the star Wesley Snipes. Want more? You got it! There are more then a dozen great bonus features here offering literally hours of extra entertainment.

What genre is Blade II? Action? Drama? Horror? Comedy? In a word –Yes. When a movie seems to defy classification, it almost always is branded a “cult” phenomenon. Blade was born in the comic book world, and truly lends itself to this kind of following. Still back, watch, enjoy. Oh and if you get scared, let some sunshine into the room, Vampires can’t get you then – or can they?
