“I’ll never tell…”

Well the tagline/quote above has certainly been over used and abused, both in the hype for this film and in the movie itself. This Michael Douglas thriller is a suspenseful ride with an excellent supporting cast and an interesting plot. While it only had a mediocre showing at the box-office, this may be more due to its late September release during a time when many people were in no mood to go to the movies and not only on the merits of the film. Give this 20th Century Fox high quality DVD a viewing and make your own decisions, if you like thrillers you should like this one as well.

When upscale New York psychiatrist Nathan Conrad (Douglas) expects an eighteen-year-old girl (Brittany Murphy) as a pro-bono case at the request of a friend, he has no idea how much trouble he is in for. It seems that this troubled young girl has a hidden secret that someone will do anything to find out. When Conrad’s daughter is held hostage, with a dead line, he will have to work harder then ever to unlock the mystery of a perplexed mind to save her life. Will he make it in time?

This anamorphic widescreen offering, presented in 2.35:1 is very crisp clean and colorful, with only a few visible flaws in the darkest of scenes. The audio quality is also above average, with a choice of DTS 5.1 or Dolby Digital 5.1 to surround you with sound.

For a single disk offering this DVD is packed with a large quantity of high quality extras (try saying that three times fast). Extras include a director’s commentary, scene-specific commentaries by the actors, deleted scenes, Brittany Murphy’s screen test, multiple making of featurettes, and even more.

Is this the best movie ever made, perhaps not (ok, not). Still it does have its moments, and see if you can figure out what the number the killers want is all about, because I’ll never tell…
