“I glued myself to…Myself” Did you ever get to the end of a movie and just wish there was more to it? Well, if you said that about the movie American Pie, then American Pie 2 would be just what you were looking for, more of the same. The same cast, almost the same plot, and even some of the same jokes. If you liked the first one, and are looking for more of the same, then don’t hesitate, check out part two. If on the other hand you think sequels should be able to stand on their own, or at least have their own storyline, you won’t enjoy this one even a little. The original cast of American Pie, reprise their roles in this story of high school friends that return home after their first year in college. Jim (Jason Biggs) Nadia (Shannon Elizabeth) Michelle (Alyson Hannigan) Oz (Chris Klein) Jessica (Natasha Lyonne) Stifler (Seann William Scott) Heather (Mena Suvari) Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas) and even Jim’s Dad (Eugene Levy) all return for a summer party. With a recommendation from Kevin’s older and wiser brother, the crew heads for the beach and takes on summer jobs. What kid of trouble can they get into? You have to ask? Presented in anamorphic widescreen at an aspect ratio of 1.85:1, the video quality is better then average. While a comedy such as this does not require high quality multi-channel sound to be thoroughly enjoyed, fans of this sight know that is a requirement to get a high score in the audio category here. Universal has done a great job with the soundtrack offerings on this DVD, providing both DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1 offerings. Let the choice be yours, either way the laughs will come through loud and clear. With an “Unrated” DVD the extras have to be really wild to catch our attention, and American Pie 2 delivers in spades. With a list of extras that includes deleted scenes, a making of, screen tests, music videos, a cast and director’s commentary, and more you would be hard pressed to be left wanting for more. But there is more, a lot more, if you have a DVD-ROM in you PC that is. And if you have high-speed Internet access, check out the exclusive content on Universal’s website too. Oh and if you are an “Easter egg” hunter, you’ll get a kick out of the one hidden here. (No! I won’t tell you where it is, you’ll just have to find it yourself.) Will there be an American Pie 3? With the success of part two we bet there will be, but how much of “more of the same” will audiences put up with? Think that it can’t be much? Police Academy made it to part 7! Let’s hope that we never end up with that much pie. Still, if you own the first, you will want to add the second DVD to your collection as well, I mean really it’s like this one time in band camp…
