“One, two Freddy’s coming for you, three four better lock the door…” There are only three words that are needed to
describe Nightmare on Elm Street, “Horror movie classic”. More than just a “slasher” film Nightmare is a psycho
thriller that goes after you when you are most vulnerable, while you’re
a sleep. According to directory Wes Craven this movie is somehow loosely
based on a true story that he had read in the paper. True or not Nightmare
does for sleep what Jaws did for swimming, you may just never want to do
it again. With this great transfer and the new sound track however, you
will have something to do with all those sleepless nights, you can watch
this DVD over and over again! Tina is have more than just a little problem sleeping
at night, you see there is this guy with knives for fingers that is
chasing in her dreams. But is it a dream? Or is reality? We have all heard
the myth that if you die in your dreams you will never wake up, right? As
her friends die one by one Nancy Thompson (Heather Langenkamp) realizes
that they are all sharing the same dream, and this nightmare can be a real
killer. Presented in the origin widescreen format, this
“enhanced for 16x9 TV’s” transfer is very good for it’s age and
certainly the best that I have seen for this classic. The new 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtrack that was created
for this DVD is phenomenal, it’s hard to imagine the movie without it.
(You don’t have to imagine however you do have the option of listen to
the original version. But why would you want to do that?) The only “set top DVD” extra here is a
feature-length commentary by Writer/Director Wes Craven, Directory of
Photography Jacques Haitkin, and actors Heather Langenkamp and John Saxon.
In order to get all of the available extras on this disk you need to have
a PC and a DVD-ROM drive. Even with these “ROM” extras there is still
only a limited amount of extras here, I would have hoped for more.
