"Got milk?" If you liked the movie Airplane or are a fan of South Park then you're bound to at least get a chuckle (or a belly laugh) from Baseketball. This movie stars the creators of South Park, and although they didn't write the movie it is obvious that they were given more than just a little leeway to improvise there lines. The movie was directed by and written by David Zucker (of Airplane fame) and is definitely in line with his past works. What do two losers that have not changed since high school do to impress women and to make them popular? They invent a sport that they can be good at of course! And not just any sport, a sport that combines Basketball with Baseball, but with all the athletic requirements removed. A sport that anyone that can hit a fluke of a basket can play. There is just one interesting element added, the psych-out, basically allowing the opposing teams players the ability to say or do anything (short of hitting the other player) to cause them to miss their shot. After one "season" of playing their newly created sport as a friendly street game, a multi-millionaire Ted Denslow (Ernest Borgnine) approaches the games two creators Joe Cooper (Trey Parker) and Doug Remer (Matt Stone) and offers to make it a "pro" sport. The two agree as long as the sport remains true to its roots, with rules that state players can not change teams, or make more than a certain amount etc. It is no surprise to sports fans that it is the owner of the Dallas Felons, that wants to change all the rules so that he can make even more money, even if it means that the players and the sport suffers in the long run. The video here is clear, yet unspectacular, certainly not the best DVD out there, but not the worst either. Average. The Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack is also just ranked average, but not because of any noticeable flaws, it's just that this type of movie (comedy, dialog) doesn't normally create a sound showpiece. There are a few extras including a music video, making of featurette, and some web links. I'm sure that with a movie like this the list of possible extras could be extensive, but considering its relatively limited box-office appeal, I can understand keeping the cost of DVD production low by not adding an abundance of extras. Also average. So if you like leave your mind at home, slap stick, Airplane like, comedy , then cut up your favorite chair, stitch up your own ball, and get ready to play BASEketball.
