"Who's Raymond Romero?" This story, originally started by the late Orson Wells, will probably leave you a little confused in the end. A political story where the politician has more than his share of bones in his closet. Don't remember this one in the box-office? That's because it never made it there, it went straight to pay television. The video is clean with no noticeable compression errors, audio is 2-channel only, but at least there are a handful of extras. Two independent candidates are in the final running for the Mississippi Governor's race, and because of the lack of Democrats or Republican candidates, the race is drawing a lot of attention. The front-runner Blake Pellarin (William Hurt) is rich, good-looking, and fiercely driven. Many have even speculated that Blake could have a very bright future, a future leading all the way to the ultimate big brass ring - The White House. In the quest for such lofty goals however, you must be ready to relive and justify your past. But what if something in your past was so shocking, so utterly unmentionable, that you had to keep it deeply buried? Luckily if you are Blake and your wife (Miranda Richardson) is "Richer than God" and can buy off anyone that opposes you, or can she? The 1.77:1 Anamorphic Widescreen video looks good, with only a tiny bit of dirt obviously from the master. The sound here is presented in Dolby Digital 2-Chennel Stereo (2.0 Surround) only, and with the nature of this film (mostly talking) more is not really needed. There are a limited number of extras here including Director and Co-writer's feature length audio commentary, deleted scenes, and a few bonus trailers. The Director's commentary is a very necessary extra here to help understand where this script is Orson Wells and where it is F.X Feeney &George Hickenlooper. It also helps to understand the film's hard-to-follow plotline. If you like Orson Wells, multi-layered type movies and have the time to put forth the effort of a "thinking movie", then you probably will like The Big Brass Ring. If you are looking for just a fun two hours however you're going to have to reach for something else…
