George Carlin - Double Feature

DVD Review by Yanman

"What about those passengers traveling with large children? Suppose you have a 2 year old with a pituitary disorder, you know a 6ft infant with an oversized head?"

This is George Carlin in not one, but two one hour-long comedy specials, Jammin' in New York and Doin' it again. Jammin' is actual the newer of the two taking place in 1992, with Doin' it being from 1990. Both have some dated material, what with one being eight years old and the other being ten, but outside these small bouts of reminiscing, most of Carlin's material is timeless. Even though this one is listed as "Not Rated", fans of old George will be aware that this one does contain adult material and language.

Jammin' In New York -

Carlin takes brutal aim at almost everything. The government, male sexuality, the US military, golfers, yellow ribbons, the upper class, eating disorders, the news media, environmentalists and the average American, no one is safe from this satirist viewpoint. Long time fans may notice that Carlin is now trying to send a message now more then ever, although controversy is certainly nothing new for him. This award-winning, Emmy-nominated show is a must for truly devoted aficionado, will get a chuckle from must, and will make everyone think regardless of your point-of-view.

Doin' it Again -

In this earlier of the two specials Carlin, as he states in the beginning, jokes about anything and everything. From offensive language, cancer, feminism, organ donor programs, to the very words we use everyday, nothing is off limits to this politically incorrect stand-up. Shot in New Jersey this entertaining and enlightening concert one 1990's Cable Ace Award for Best Standup Comedy Special.

There is not much need in the way of reviewing the Audio, Video and Extra quality here. Audio is Dolby surround, with only a very limited amount of crowd noise filtered into the surrounds. Video is a little better then HBO's standard satellite signal, clean and clear. And the Extras are non-existent.

Carlin fans rejoice, you get two high quality, easily random accessed, performances on one low cost DVD. New fans may also enjoy Carlin's antics, but should probably rent first, to make sure this bad boy of comedy is on the same page as they are politically. Now what were those seven words again?
