"Buckle your seatbelt, Dorothy, because Kansas is about to go bye-bye."

What is the Matrix? Good question Alice, I guess you'll just have to follow the white rabbit and find out. Now what the movie The Matrix is that I can tell you, it's a fast paced action packed cyber-thriller. So fast paced as a matter of fact that you may find yourself needing watch more than once to catch everything. Add all the extras that are included on this DVD and this one should keep you entertained for many hours to come.

Thomas Anderson a.k.a. Neo (Keanu Reeves) is a computer programmer by day hacker by night. He has spent many a sleepless night by his computer, looking for a fellow hacker that goes by the code name Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) and for the truth about something called the Matrix.

But is he ready for the truth about the Matrix? Is anyone? Are you? Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Matrix is. You have to see it for yourself.

The anamorphic widescreen video presentation is well above average, but not perfect. Some of the dark scenes are soft at times and an artifact or two can be detected in the background. That being said, if you don't look real hard I doubt you will find them, so this one gets 4.5 stars.

What makes a sci-fi action adventure movie heart pounding and keeps you at the edge of your seat? It's the sound! And the 5.1 Dolby Digital sound track on The Matrix does just that. I will note this however if you don't have a Dolby Digital receiver, the dialog may be a little muffled and there is no choice of switching to a non-5.1 audio. I can't think of a better reason to upgrade your receiver though, can you?

On the just DVD player side there are a descent number of extras, to completely take advantage of all the extras however you are going to need a DVD-ROM drive on your computer. Many discs are going this route; only time will tell if this is the best move. You definitely will miss a lot of cool features on this disc if you don't have a DVD-ROM.

If you haven't seen The Matrix, and you like action movies, then this is a must see. If you have already seen this one and can still stand to see Keanu Reeves "act" in it again, then the extras here make this one worthwhile. I've already watched this one all the way thru twice and I'm ready to see it again. So take the red pill and see just how deep the rabbit hole goes.
