"It's a perfect example of life imitating art imitating life." Scream was a horror movie, based on horror movies and it followed the rules of horror movies (for the most part). Scream 2 follows the rules of a horror movie sequel, the body count is higher, and everyone (and I do mean everyone) is a suspect. Oh yeah and one more thing sequels are rarely better or even as good as the original. The DVD of Scream 2 is also a case where the sequel can't live up to the original Scream SE DVD, while the video and audio are up to par the extras are unfortunately missing. Our story opens in a very unique new twist in horror movies, the movie Stab is playing at the local theater. Stab is a movie that has been made about the first killings that happened during Scream, based on the book by Gail Weathers (Courtney Cox). A movie within a movie. As soon as the movie hits the theaters at the premiere in fact, the killings start again and it doesn't take long for the killer to find Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell). Now the killer is relentless in trying to finish-up the work that was started in the original. Who is the killer? Sidney's boyfriend, a classmate, or maybe it's one of the survivors from the first film. But, while you are sitting there tying to figure out who the killer is, remember the rules. The 2.35:1 non-anamorphic widescreen print looks extremely good, with not a flaw or an artifact to be found. Clean but we would have liked to have seen an anamorphic transfer. Sound can play a major role in scary movies, and the 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtrack here does its job well. There are no extras here not even a one. Now the Scream SE has a large number of extras and we can only hope that either a Special Edition of Scream 2 will be released in the future or when Scream 3 (being released in theaters Feb. 2000) finally makes it to DVD, that the whole trilogy gets the complete treatment as a boxed set. Do you like scary movies? What's your favorite scary movie? If you liked Scream or you are just getting ready for the next sequel, get Scream 2 you will be scared. As for me, I'm off to rent another scary movie Showgirls, absolutely frightening.
