While we have reviewed the movie Starship Troopers here before, the new extras on this Special Edition help to give greater insight into the meaning of this film. Based on the Robert A. Heinlein book written in the 1950’s, which was much clearing in getting its point across, the military is the fascist army with the bugs representing the other extreme, communism. While the book makes this extremely clear, the movie takes a lighter funnier approach to the subject. Depending on how much thinking you want to do at the time you watch the film, you can either tune out and enjoy the action, or get yourself into a very deep discussion about the perils of war. While our review of the original DVD offing took the first, more mindless, shoot-em-up view, subsequent viewings have each yielded different perspectives. With superior widescreen video, 5.1 Dolby Digital sound, and a larger number of extras then ever before, this Special Edition is as good as it gets (its lack of a 5.1 DTS audio track not withstanding). If you have this one in your collection already (and it gets any amount of play), then it may be time to consider an update. If on the other hand you have yet to include this one on your self, there probably will never be a better time to do so. Do your part!
