"Welcome
to primetime B...."
How do you review eight DVD’s all at once? Well the
best way is to write this review as more of an index and to review the key
DVD’s as individual movies. So here’s the overview with links to
reviews as they come on-line. The Nightmare on Elm Street Collection as a whole is
the most complete compilation of a horror movie series ever. In my mind
this is the only way to own this series. The extras that one would expect
to be on each individual film, cast interview, plot summaries, special
effects info, are included on a separate disk The Nightmare series
Encyclopedia. And there is also a 35-page booklet of additional
information. Nightmare on Elm Street – The original, and still
the best. Updated sound, great video, but only one on DVD extra
(Director’s commentary). **** ½ See
our full-length review. Nightmare on Elm Street 2 – This one never should
have been made. In my opinion the series would have been stronger if this
one was never made and what is now part 3 becomes 2. Noticeably missing
Wes Craven and Heather Langenkamp. Video is clean, and the new 5.1
Soundtrack is great, no real extras. *** ½ Nightmare on Elm Street 3 – This movie brings back
Wes Craven, Heather Langenkamp , John Saxon, and of course Robert England
as Freddy Krueger. Clean video and a great new 5.1 remix soundtrack, no
real extras though. **** Nightmare on Elm Street 4 – Built on the power of number three, Nightmare 4 continues to add to the Freddy legacy. Good video, great 5.1 sound, OK story, no extras. *** ½ Nightmare on Elm Street 5 – New twist to a now well
know story, Nightmare 5 fits in great right after 4, using the characters
from that film. OK video, superior 5.1 sound, again no extras. *** ½. Freddy’s Dead The Final Nightmare – There was no
need for this one either if you ask me, and what is with the 3D ending?
Great video, good sound, extras include the original 3D ending, to bad the
plot sucks. **** Wes Craven’s New Nightmare – What a fresh way to
end a series! Wes Craven is back in a big way! He brings back many of the
original cast Heather Langenkamp as herself and Nancy, John Saxon, and of
course Robert England as both Freddy Krueger and himself. Great film.
Super clean video; super 5.1 sound, Director’s commentary, and a great
film. **** ½. The Nightmare Series Encyclopedia – Where are all
the extras that you know must exist? There right here. Cast interviews,
making of, special effects, a rock video in 5.1 sound, and much much more.
If you’re a Nightmare fan, this disk alone is worth the cost of the set.
