When was the last time you laughed out loud, no I
mean a real belly laugh. Although I didn’t care too much for the
Farrelly brother’s Dumb and Dumber, There’s something about Mary, had
me rolling on the floor. Now this is in no way “high brow” comedy.
This is slap stick potty humor at its best. Leave your brain at the door
and get ready to laugh you’re a** off! First love, high school, and the girl you took to the
prom, well almost. You see Ted (Ben Stiller) the town nerd had his one
chance with the beautiful Mary (Cameron Diaz), but screws it up with one
memorable bathroom zipper scene. But love doesn’t end when you’re
thrown in the back of an ambulance. No some people hold a torch for every,
say thirteen years or so. So Ted hires a private eye, Pat Healy (Matt
Dillon) to track her down. But when Pat falls for Mary himself, Ted
decides to take matters into his own hands “in more ways then one”. But being in love with Mary has become more than just
a hobby for a number of eccentric suitors. Between Warren, Pat, Bret,
Wogey, Tucker, and Puffy is there really any room for Ted? Well only time
and a whole lot of laughing will tell for sure. Video here is pristine, as one would expect from a
DVD of a recent movie. This one is presented in 1.85:1, and is not
anamorphic. The layer change is noticeable, but does not deter from the
progression of the film. Sound here is 5.1 Dolby Digital and sounds good, but
comedy is not the genre to fully utilize a surround field. There are a number of extras here including a
director’s commentary, Music Video, Outtakes, and a Karaoke Music Video.
We kind have hoped there would have been one or two additional
extras here, deleted scenes, or a featurette or two would have been nice.
