"To infinity and beyond…"
What happens when you take two great movies, transfer them to DVD, package them together with a third disc chock full of extras? Well if the two movies are Toy Story, and Toy Story 2 by Disney and Pixar, you go from having a set of hit movies, to having a DVD collection that is a must have. Perfect video, great sound and more extras then you are likely to watch at any given sitting, are just some of the reasons. These are also available individually or in a two pack minus the disc of supplemental features. Many people complained when Disney decided not to release Toy Story to DVD early on in the format's history. There was even a buzz that Toy Story 2 would not release to DVD at the same time as its VHS counterpart. None of these people could imagine the growth of the format or the demand for these, at the time the comments were being made. Fast forward to today, when boxed sets, dual layer discs, and extras are all the rage among the millions of DVD owners and nothing less then an over-the-top boxed set would do for these films. We are glad Disney waited and released these two films on DVD, in a box set that is complete in every way. Toy Story "Look, we're all very impressed with Andy's new toy." Andy is a typical six-year-old; he has a room full of toys with one, a stuffed cowboy doll named Woody (Tom Hanks). The only difference is that Andy's toys can walk and talk when there are no humans around. What do toys talk about when they are alone? They talk about the usual things, plastic corrosion awareness, moving day, and batteries. When Andy's birthday party starts however, the conversation goes from casual to worry, could Andy get new toys and replace them? Maybe even his favorite toy Woody? Woody is not at all worried at first, I mean what could Andy get that would replace him? That question is quickly answered when Andy's newest toy is unpacked, the latest hero, Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen). Woody and Buzz fight it out at first, but when they are both captured by the evil next store neighbor, Sid, they realize that they must stick together and become friends. Toy Story 2 "Who am I to break up the Roundup Gang?" Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz (Tim Allen) and the entire gang of Andy's toys are back for this action packed romp. When Woody is kidnapped (or is that toynapped?), Buzz and the gang set out to find the sinister man in a chicken suit that has stolen their friend. Why would anyone steal woody from Andy, and the toys that love him? The answer will surprise you. You see woody is part of a set. He is the lead player in a 50's TV series that was canceled a long time ago. A toy museum in Japan is willing to pay a lot of money for these toys, but only as a complete set. Will Buzz and the gang be able to save woody in time? Will Woody even want to be saved? Both discs are presented in 1.77:1 widescreen and are Anamorphic enhanced, presenting the best possible picture for 16x9 TVs. Both of these discs are of the best possible quality, with zero flaws of any kind. Just like one of our other favorite Pixar films A Bugs Life, Toy Story and Toy Story 2 were transferred to DVD directly from there master computer image. This eliminates any film flaws (image that, no film = no film flaws!), and allows for the absolute best picture quality possible. You'll find yourself pulling this one out to demo for sure! Audio here is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 on Toy Story, and in the new Dolby Digital 5.1 EX on Toy Story 2. Don't worry if you don't have those extra two rear speakers though (most don't), this one sounds great either way. Want extras? OK, how about if each disc has its own and then there is an additional disc to hold all the extras that don't fit? That's right there are a total of three discs here, for an astonishing (get this), 9 hours 6 min. of total video. We know what we are going to do the next time it rains! Let's face it THE TOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN, and they are bigger and better then ever, in a two pack, or in "The Ultimate 3-disc Toy Box". Whichever way you decide to get your favorite toys, you won't be disappointed of this you can be sure! Hey sketch, DRAW!
