"And the winners are ..."
Here they are the top 10 DVDs released in the year 2001. Now remember these were DVDs that released in the year 2001, so the movies may be from any year. 10. The Sony Superbit Collection -For the home theater enthusiast and DVD collector, video and audio quality are paramount in their buying decision. Superbit DVDs offer the best Audio and Video possible with the DVD format. 9. Rush Hour 2 (Infinifilm Edtion) - When a movie breaks the 100 million dollar barrier at the box-office as Rush Hour did, you can count on there being a sequel. Rush Hour 2 builds on the success of the original, taking us this time to the streets of Hong Kong. Presented in New Line's infinifilm format, offering the best in Video and Sound Quality, a the new standard in accessing extras. 8. Cast Away - If you love Tom Hanks films, Survivor, or just are into a great story on a superb DVD at an unbelievable price, don't hesitate for even a second get Cast Away today. This DVD even has a hidden extra that answers the toughest question … What's in the stupid box? 7. Die Hard Collection - Some movies need no introduction, and some DVDs need no hype, Die Hard the DVD Collection fits in category for sure. 6. Star Wars Phantom Menace Episode I - Don't care for Jar Jar Binks? Us either, but hey that is no reason to completely miss out on a great Star Wars experience or a phenomenal DVD. Gungans or no Gungans, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace is worth owning, even if it is only to show off a scene or two. May the force be with you… 5. How the Grinch Stole Christmas - It is funny how many times you keep hearing that this is a role “made for Jim Carrey” like no one can believe that he is going to do a good job until he does. If you liked him in The Mask, then this second time in green won’t surprise you at all. If on the other hand you aren’t a big fan of his maybe it is your heart that is “two sizes too small!” 4. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - Better then ever video quality, a re-mastered Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack, and more extras than can fit on one disk, all make this a DVD must have. 3. Almost Famous Bootleg Cut - It is more then just a coming of age story and more then just about rock and roll, it is about people and how they interact and it helps to define an era gone by. Kate Hudson truly shines. 2. Shrek - If you liked Shrek at the movies, then you’ll love Shrek on DVD it’s bigger, better, and even greener (ok I made that last part up). If you are one of the few that haven’t seen this one yet, then rush out now to get it. 1. The Godfather DVD Collection - This complete set of one of the most revered trilogies ever many has set a new standard for bonus features, with over three hours of extras on a bonus disc. The Godfather DVD Collection is a must own. Different from a boxed set, a 2-disc set is one movie, that has so many extras, that it can't fit on just one DVD. The nominees for the year 2001 are - Dinosaur, The Mummy Ultimate Edition, Cast Away, Snow White, Star Wars I, Shrek, Almost Famous Bootleg, Citizen Kane And the Yanman.com DVD Award goes to - Shrek If you are looking for a complete movie trilogy, or any two or more movies combined into one package, for one low price, then a boxed set is the way to go. The nominees for the year 2001 are - The Simpsons - The Complete First Season, The Sopranos - Year 2, Jurassic Park Trilogy, The Godfather Collection, Die Hard Collection And the Yanman.com DVD Award goes to - The Godfather Collection Ok, these may not have been the worst DVD's but the move on the disc, well lets just say we could have done without them. The nominees for the year 2001 are - Urban Legends Final Cut, Battlefield Earth, Freddy Got Fingered, The Proposal, Mimic 2 And the winner is (or in this category really the loser is)... Battlefield Earth This is one of the hardest categories to pick with all of the movies released to DVD this year, we decided to stick with "new" movies released for the first time in any format over the past year. The nominees for the year 2001 are - Cast Away, Shrek, Pearl Harbor, Almost Famous, Rush Hour 2 And the Yanman.com DVD Award goes to - Shrek Looking for a DVD that has all the "bells and whistles"? Call them what you like (Extras, Bonus Materials, Special Features), this added material is what makes a DVD different from any other format. The nominees for the year 2001 are - The Godfather Collection, Almost Famous Bootleg Edition, Shrek, Forrest Gump, Snow White, The Emperor's New Groove, Rush Hour 2, Cats & Dogs And the Yanman.com DVD Award goes to - The Emperor's New Groove Want a picture that just jumps off the screen at you? Did you just get that new HDTV set or progressive DVD player that you always wanted, and now need to know what to play on it? These are our picks. The nominees for the year 2001 are - Shrek, The Emperor's New Groove, Dinosaur, Recess Schools Out, The Fifth Element (Superbit Collection) And the Yanman.com DVD Award goes to - Dinosaur
5.1, 6.1, 7.1, Dolby Digital, DTS, THX, DTS-ES, THX-EX. With all the formats out there the question remains which DVDs sound better then the rest? The nominees for the year 2001 are - Cast Away, Star Wars I, Rush Hour 2, The Mummy Ultimate Edition, Air Force One (Superbit Collection) And the Yanman.com DVD Award goes to - Star Wars Phantom Menace Episode I
What do we mean by new format? Well many of the studios have decided that they would have multiple lines of DVD offerings, one common the other very high end. It is these high end offerings that we award here, they are all winners. New Line - Infinifilm
