Home theater in the past has been described in a number of ways. Some say in it's most basic form it is just a TV, Hi-Fi VCR, and a pair of speakers. The next level up (More in line with what most believe to be the "entry level" of home theater) combines the following elements, at least a 27" TV, Dolby® Pro Logic Receiver, Hi-Fi VCR, Laserdisc player or DVD Player, Front left & Right speakers, a center channel speaker, subwoofer, and a pair of surround speakers. I know you might be saying WOW! if that's the beginning how far can you go with this? Well lets just take a look at our picture above. Front projection video, active screen, DSS satellite, amps, pre amps, DVD, laserdisc, 5.1 channel digital surround-sound, two subwoofers, THX, universal remote control, and theater seating, all in a specially designed separate room. Some people also add in things like a multimedia computer, video game system, and audio components (CD, CD changer, tape, even a turntable). The cost of a home theater system? The "entry level" system I outlined above can be put together for as low as $2,500 if you don't already have a 27" or larger stereo TV (most people today do). So minus the TV you're looking at around $1800 to get started. To get a complete "Just Like a Theater" system it can cost as much as $50,000 or more, and that does not include the cost of the room to house it! |
