Ok, this is not really the theater that we use here to review DVDs on (Although it would be nice! If you designed or own this theater please let us know so we can give you credit), we review on Yanman.com's reference theater. Check it out

What is a Home Theater anyway?

I'm glad you asked! Home theater in the past has been described in a number of ways. Some say in it's most basic form it is just a TV, Hi-Fi VCR, and a pair of speakers.

The next level up (More in line with what most believe to be the "entry level" of home theater) combines the following elements, at least a 27" TV, Dolby® Pro Logic Receiver, Hi-Fi VCR, Laserdisc player or DVD Player, Front left & Right speakers, a center channel speaker, subwoofer, and a pair of surround speakers.

I know you might be saying WOW! if that's the beginning how far can you go with this? Well lets just take a look at our picture above. Front projection video, active screen, DSS satellite, amps, pre amps, DVD, laserdisc, 5.1 channel digital surround-sound, two subwoofers, THX, universal remote control, and theater seating, all in a specially designed separate room. Some people also add in things like a multimedia computer, video game system, and audio components (CD, CD changer, tape, even a turntable).

The cost of a home theater system? The "entry level" system I outlined above can be put together for as low as $2,500 if you don't already have a 27" or larger stereo TV (most people today do). So minus the TV you're looking at around $1800 to get started. To get a complete "Just Like a Theater" system it can cost as much as $50,000 or more, and that does not include the cost of the room to house it!
